Jacqueline performs as mezzo soloist in a bold new staging of Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, presented by Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and The 9th as you’ve never seen it before

You may think you know Beethoven’s final symphony, but this major collaboration with the country’s leading contemporary circus company, Circa, will be its most dynamic outing yet.

Described as “a revolution in the art of circus”, Circa – under the direction of Yaron Lifschitz – has built an astonishing reputation as a contemporary circus pioneer. Combining virtuosic acrobatic skill with a sophisticated, interdisciplinary approach to music, Circa’s artists are the perfect partner for this unique and memorable collaboration.

In this first-time collaboration between the MSO and Circa, ten world-class circus artists under the direction of Yaron Lifschitz will present Beethoven’s music in its physical form – with emotionally-charged choreography intricately woven to reflect the score. Extreme skill and dramatic acrobatics play out in this grand celebration of humanity, where the lines between movement, music, dance and theatrics are blurred and boundaries are pushed.

Latvian soprano Maija Kovaļevska joins Australian soloists mezzo-soprano Jacqueline Dark, tenor Paul O’Neill and bass Warwick Fyfe, as well as the mighty MSO Chorus for the final movement of the remarkable Ninth Symphony.
